We’ve run the numbers on our first full calendar year of action, effectively looking at every Plunge triggered in 2017 across all race types. As a result, we’ll start providing additional insights and information on the back of the analysis of this data and beyond.

Below is a high level summary and snapshot of notable race tracks across Australia and New Zealand and how they fared with Thoroughbred Plunges in 2017. Effectively the best, the worst and numbers associated with all metropolitan race tracks.

Note:

  • ROI based on flat stake of 1 unit the win on each plunge to keep things simple.
  • We’ve omitted all with less than 4 plunges for the year for this snapshot.

THE GOOD:

  • Pukekura went at 100% winners with 4 winners from 4 plunge notifications and an ROI of 202.5%.
  • Interestingly, top three in terms of ROI are all over in NZ (Rukekura, Pukekohe and Tauranga).
  • Of the metro tracks, Moonee Valley the standout with 15/22 at 68.18% and ROI of 81.36%.
  • In saying that, both Sandown tracks very solid with 22 winners from 33 alerts.
  • Canterbury also solid results for a metro track with 17 from 32 at 53.13% and ROI of 15.94%.
  • Other notables:
    • Hawkesbury: 16 winners from 25 at 64% and 48.44% ROI.
    • Kembla Grange: 21 winners from 31 at 67.74% and 46.29% ROI.
    • Warrnambool: 14 winners from 23 at 60.87% and 39.83% ROI.
    • Launceston: 24 winners from 43 at 55.81% and 26.65% ROI.

THE BAD:

  • Bordertown, Cowra, Moree and Swan Hill couldn’t manage a winner despite 21 plunge notifications.
  • Benalla 1 winner from 8 at a terrible 9.09%.
  • Kalgoorlie arguably the worst with 3 winners from 21 alerts at 14.29%.
  • Narrogin 1 winner from 10 at 10%.
  • Wangaratta 2 winners from 11 at 18.18%.
  • Of the metro tracks, the only two to return a negative ROI were Caulfield and Warwick Farm:
    • Caulfield: 2 winners from 7 Plunge alerts at 28.57% strike rate and -23.71% ROI.
    • Warwick Farm: 6 winners from 21 Plunge alerts at identical 28.57% strike rate and -32.10% ROI.

METROPOLITAN TRACKS:

  • Good to see profit across 10 of the 12 tracks, albeit minor profit for Doomben and Flemington.
  • Moonee Valley the best, followed by both Sandown tracks, Randwick and Rosehill.
  • Warwick Farm the worst, closely followed by Caulfield who surprisingly only had 7 for the calendar year.
